YouTube, a video sharing website which was acquired in 2006 for US$1.65 billion, today connects millions of people online through video. More than 72 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute, and collectively 800 million people watch 4 billion hours of video on the site each month.
Other widely adopted products include Google Maps, which offers driving directions spanning 26 million miles of road in 187 countries.
Google has also made advances in fields such as artificial intelligence and machine translation; Google Translate reaches more than 200 million users world wide and can translate between 64 languages. The company is also working on long-term moonshot projects like self-driving car technology and Glass, a wearable computer that is designed to provide information when you need it but stay out of your way when you don’t.
Google also is known for its unique corporate culture, and has ranked first on Fortune magazine’s list of the best companies to work for three times since 2007.
